Yesterday many of us celebrated Mother’s Day. While it certainly seems like one day is not nearly long enough to recognize the contributions that our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, sisters, and other maternal figures have made in our lives, we enjoy the opportunity to show our appreciation.
As we prepared for Mother's Day, we began to think about all the things our mothers have said to us over the years. They surely give advice, provide correction, and often can say a lot with just a look! When you think of your mother (or maternal figure), I bet you can recall something they said all the time or something they said once or twice that really stuck with you. So in the spirit of the holiday, we thought we would share some our favorite quotes around motherhood. Enjoy!
“When you are a mother, you are never really alone in your thoughts. A mother always has to think twice, once for herself and once for her child.” -Sophia Loren
“There’s no way to be a perfect mother and a million ways to be a good one.” —Jill Churchill
“Everybody wants to save the Earth; nobody wants to help Mom do the dishes.” —P.J. O’Rourke
“It has been a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad day. My mom says some days are like that.” —Judith Viorst in Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day
“Silence is golden. Unless you have kids. Then silence is suspicious.” -Unknown
"God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers." -Rudyard Kipling
“Being a parent is like folding a fitted sheet. No one really knows how.” -Unknown
Whatever your favorite saying or most memorable piece of advice was, we hope you will agree that mothers are incredibly special!
